The truth about rabbit fur

RabbitEvery year an estimated 1 billion rabbits are killed around the world for their fur!

Intensively reared, thousands of rabbits in factory farms will spend 8 to 9 months in solitary cages until they are slaughtered.

Much of this fur will end up as coats, boots, hats, gloves and trim or lining for jackets and other fashion clothing items.

But there is a hidden side to rabbit fur that many people are unaware of. You may have items made of fur and not even know.

Many cat owners and cat shelters around the world have toy mice for their cats that could be made from rabbit fur. These toys are produced in China and are often not even labelled as real fur.

The Fur Free Alliance provides information on how to tell if something is made with real fur but if you are in any doubt, please don’t buy!

Bullfighting’s final vote

This is history in the making! There is now a very real chance to end the blood sport of bullfighting in one of Spain’s largest regions: Catalonia.

After a huge anti-cruelty campaign, 180,000 Catalonian citizens signed a petition against bullfighting.


The regional parliament in Barcelona will vote today to ban bullfighting for good!

Vasillis is looking for a loving home!

Vasillis is a small puppy of about 3 months old which was left at a hotel in Sissi…
He is an affectionate dog which loves to play with other dogs. As he is still young it will be easy to teach him how to behave. He will not become a very big dog as he has short legs and at the moment only weights around 3 kilos.
 
  
 
Vasillis is greatly admired on Crete as he looks very much like the local and popular hunting dogs, but his foster mum won’t, understandably, allow him to fall in the hands of a hunter.
Who wants to give little Vasillis a loving home where he can have his lazy dog life?!

A day of good news!!!

After a long time with us, we are very happy to inform you that both Jude and Lambros have found homes!!!

Jude in fact will be trading one island for another… he will soon be travelling to Karpathos! But more about that in another blog ;-)

Information about dogs going to UK

Summer is here and many requests from UK citizens are coming in! Concerned people who would like to take an animal they found on holiday or seasonal workers who adopted a dog and are researching what needs to be done in preparation for the trip home…

While CAWG doesn’t consider this approach as part of solving the stray animal problem in the long term and sustainably, we understand people’s need for information regarding this process.

Marley travels around Greece!

When GAWF informed us that their English Language Writing Competition was yet again a huge success and that there was a 1st prize winner on Crete we were thrilled!!! However, Marley was even happier than us because they invited him to present the awards and at the prize giving ceremonies in 4 large Greek cities!!!

After the overnight trip on the ferry boat, the bus trip, the flight and all the walking, Marley was wondering whether it was all worth the trouble but he soon changed his mind when he realised how much the children loved him and how well they had done in the competition!

Goodbye Angel…

Angel was with us from the very beginning, found with cat flu too late for her eyes to be saved… She adapted well amongst all the other animals and we like to think we offered her all that was possible for a comfortable and happy life.

Unfortunately, in old age her epileptic seizures became too frequent and her quality of life was questioned… It is with great grief that we would like to inform you that Angel was humanely euthanised on Wednesday, the 30th of June.


Thank you to everyone who supported Angel and CAWG over the years and we hope you continue to help us help animals like Angel on Crete and beyond.
