Wobbly says Goodbye…

Today is Tsiknopempti – the beginning of the carnival here in Greece but for us it is anything but a happy day.

Today we said goodbye to our dear Wobbly.

He came to us 7 years ago next month, unable to even stand. He could not balance or walk but we decided to give him a chance. With care and treatment he steadily improved and became one of the permanent residents with CAWG that regular visitors looked forward to seeing.

Despite his disability – he could not walk in a straight line and often fell over his own feet, Wobbly was one of the happiest dogs we have even known. Some visitors seeing him briefly thought it would be kinder to euthanize him but over the years many of our pups have found him the best companion possible, always ready to play in his good natured way.

Wobbly was always the first to greet visitors except during siesta time when he would find a shady spot, like his favourite Rosemary bush to relax in.  During the summer he enjoyed the outdoor life but come colder days and you could be sure Wobbly would the first one through the door, curling up on his favourite rug by the stove.

Now there is an empty place by the stove and an even bigger space in our hearts.

Wobbly will be greatly missed by visitors, helpers and freinds (2 and 4 legged varieties) but he proved to many that even with his disabilities he enjoyed life more than many fully fit dogs – after all, animals don’t feel that they are ”different”, ”disabled” or disadvantaged”.

Please join us in celebrating the 7 wonderful years when Wobbly showed us all how to really live and what is really important in life. To Wobbly, his 7 happy and fulfilling years with us.

Last time I visited you, two year ago, there was a another “wobbly” there, but I can not remember his name. Is he still with you?

  5. Dear everybody,

I was so sad to hear that Wobbly passed away. He always had a special place in my heart.

Thinking of him wobbling to the gate everytime we came to visit.

I wish you all the best.

  6. Thank you all for your kind comments, it means a lot to us and to Wobbly…
For those of you asking, he stopped eating on Monday and went downhill from there. Bloodtest results indicated chronic ehrlichiosis and he had problems with his liver, kidneys and fluid in his lungs. He couldn’t keep any water or medicines down so by Thursday evening we had to have him put to sleep.
Once again, your support is greatly appreciated…

  7. Thinking of you…..wish you all the best.
    Wobbly shall be missed…..
You give him a great home and a chance, thanks…

  8. Oh I am sorry, he was ‘part of the Haven furniture’ for so many years. Kerenza, what happened? Was it just old age? Or was he sick? He was a real character and will be missed by all associated with the Haven.

  12. Dear Wobbly,
In 2005 I was lucky in meeting you the first time. I will never forget the way, you greeted me every time I came around.
The way you handled your life, the way you treated others (animals and humans) should be an positive example for all of us.
To Wobbly – a role model.
Take care buddy, see you later!
    Uwe
