Annual General Meeting 2009

Cretan Animal Welfare Group would like to inform you that, following the Annual General Meeting 2009, it has been decided to refocus resources and efforts in order to maximize the benefits of our work and to create long term solutions for a better future for animals.

The key projects that will receive the highest priority are:

  • Subsidised Neutering of Owned Dogs (CAWG covers 50% of the neutering cost and 100% of the Microchip cost)
  • Humane Education (Chrysalis Dpt. conducts school visits and undertakes the training of other animal welfare societies)
  • Campaigning (Chrysalis Dpt. runs ‘Stop Circus Suffering’ in cooperation with GAWF & the ‘Good Egg Awards’ in cooperation with CIWF. Petitions are gathered for ‘Handle with Care’ and the ‘UDAW’ WSPA campaigns)
  • Donkey Project (CAWG provides sanctuary for 4 rescue donkeys & farrier/dentistry services to donkeys whose elderly owners live in remote areas)
  • Cat Cafes & Cat Catch-Neuter-Release (CAWG works with hotels and businesses to control stray cat populations)

We believe that these primarily preventative projects contribute to sustainable solutions and long term changes. As a result and over time it will reduce the need for Animal Rescue and Adoption. In the meantime the Malia Municipality is taking more responsibility and in order to provide care for the animals in need, we are looking for foster homes.

We would like to thank everyone for their inspiring support to date and hope that we will continue to work together towards achieving our vision for a “better future for the animals of Crete and beyond”.
